Trucker Wins $50,000 Powerball Double Play Prize in Strafford

Apr. 23, 2025

An over-the-road truck driver won a $50,000 Powerball prize on April 7 when he added the Double Play feature to his Quick Pick ticket. Adding the Double Play feature allows players to play the same numbers again in a second drawing held immediately following the main Powerball drawing.

“I like to buy a ticket in the different states as I drive through,” the winner said.

He purchased the winning ticket at Travel Center of America, 225 E. Evergreen St. in Strafford, and matched four of the five white-ball numbers plus the Powerball number. The winning numbers on April 7 were: 2, 31, 36, 51 and 58 with Powerball number of 15.

“I’ve won a couple of times before, enough to cover dinner, but nothing like this!” he shared.

After checking the ticket several times, he called his son and daughter-in-law to tell them about his win.  He explained his son didn’t believe him at first.

“I sent a picture of the Lottery bag I got when I claimed my prize. My son said, ‘You’re really playing it up this time!’” he laughed.

Powerball is a multi-state Draw Game with drawings held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:59 p.m.

In FY24, players in Greene County won more than $49.4 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $4.3 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $19.1 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
